PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image-taking apparatus which is capable of effectively reducing the influence of the one-side blur by an excellent automatic focusing function. SOLUTION: The image-taking apparatus comprises a focus detector 105, which detects the focus state of a plurality of focus detection areas 11 to 19 provided in an image-taking screen, and a selector 115, which selects a focus target area from a plurality of focus detection areas based on the detection result of the focus detector, an image-taking lens 101 being focused on an object in the focus target area. In a case where a first object distance to a first object is longer than a first predetermined distance and a second object distance to a second object, which exists on an outer side of the first object in the image-taking screen, is shorter than the first object distance by a second predetermined distance or more, the selector selects the focus detection area corresponding to the second object as the focus target area.
