PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of striped recessed and projecting parts in a paper sheet easy to generate such a stripe when correcting paper sheets with a correcting means using a sponge roller. SOLUTION: A curl correcting means has the rotatable sponge roller and a fixed pushing member having a circular arc part to be brought in contact with a part of the sponge roller to push the sponge roller. A control unit controls a rotary driving means of the sponge roller so that the sponge roller is moved from a contact position with the pushing member to a position separated from the contact position per the predetermined time in the condition wherein a power source is turned on.
