<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for relaying a packet by keeping harmony between the number of data bits (bps) and the number of packets (pps), even for a network of a variable-length packet system. <P>SOLUTION: The packet relay device according to the present invention comprises a bps computation portion 22, a pps computation portion 23, and a color selection portion 25. The bps computation portion 22 colors an input packet on the basis of a restricted band value or an assured band value of the number of data bits per unit of time for each flow and the packet length of the input packet. The pps computation portion 23 colors an input packet on the basis of a restricted band value or an assured band value of the number of packets per unit of time for each flow and the number of packets for the input packet. The color selection portion 25 determines a color painted at both computation portions 22 and 23 as one of a color which should be discarded, color which should be passed, or color which should be discarded according to a probability. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
