PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive discharge lamp lighting device capable of efficiently realizing blinking lighting. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device 10 is provided with a control circuit 11, bridge circuits BR1-BRn and step-up transformers T1-Tn, and is so structured that the bridge circuits BR1-BRn connected to a D.C. power source V1 are driven in response to driving signals d1-d4 from the control circuit 11 to light discharge lamps La1-Lan. The bridge circuits BR1-BRn are connected to the control circuit 11 through synchronizing switching elements Q5 and Q6; the synchronizing switching elements Q5 and Q6 turn on/off the driving signals d3 and d4 from the control circuit 11 in response to synchronization signals P1-Pn and thereby control start and stop of the bridge circuits BR1-BRn.
