PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable efficiently performing product-sum operation processing while reducing a circuit scale and the number of transmission signal lines, in a solid-state image pickup device in which AD converters are mounted on the same chip. SOLUTION: The pixel signal of a reading period of n lines is compared with a reference signal for digitizing this pixel signal and count processing is performed at any one of down or up modes in parallel to the comparing processing, and a count value at the time of completion of the comparing processing is held. Next, a pixel signal in a reading period of (n+1) lines is compared with a reference signal for digitizing this pixel signal using the count processing result of the n lines as an initial value, count processing is performed at any of down and up modes, and a count value is held at the time of completion of the comparing processing. The count value after count processing of the (n+1) lines makes a result of subtraction if the mode of count processing in the (n+1) lines is inverted from the count mode in the n lines, and makes a result of addition if the mode of count processing in the (n+1) lines is made to be the same as the count mode in the n lines.
