PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute the correction of positional shifts due to color aberration of a lens suitable for each of the following reading methods in an image reader provided with both methods for reading an image by scanning an original manuscript laid on the glass of an original manuscript platen, and for reading an image by scanning an original manuscript transferred by an ADF for transferring an original manuscript by a roller or the like. SOLUTION: The optimum correction of positional shifts can be always executed by correcting the positional shifts due to the color aberration of a lens with a correction coefficient suitable for each of the following methods, in a constitution provided with both methods for reading the image by scanning the original manuscript laid on the glass of the original manuscript platen, and for reading the image by scanning the original manuscript transferred by the ADF for transferring the original manuscript by the roller or the like. Positional shift correction processing can be simplified by arranging a positional shift correction circuit to the pre-stage of a mirror image correction circuit and a resolution conversion circuit.
