PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of reliably processing documents. SOLUTION: The image reader comprises an original base; an image reader for photographing a subject; a detector for detecting whether the documents are placed at a prescribed position on the original base; a moving picture output control unit for controlling the image reader so that the documents placed on the original base are photographed as the subject, and outputting moving picture data for indicating the documents placed on the original base to an information processor according to a detection signal; and a still picture output control unit for controlling the image reader so that the documents placed at the prescribed position are imaged as the subject, and outputting still picture data for indicating the documents placed at the prescribed position to the information processor according to the detection signal.
