PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain light emission with high efficiency and secure simplicity as well as stability in manufacturing process by improving electron impregnating property from a cathode into a light emitting layer in an organic EL element. SOLUTION: The organic EL element is provided with at least the light emitting layer 60 between opposed anode 23 and cathode 50 while an organic compound containing indium (In) mixed thereinto is formed on the surface of the light emitting layer 60 as an electron impregnating layer 52. According to this constitution, electron impregnating property from the cathode into the light emitting layer can be improved without employing a low work function metal inactive in reaction. Therefore, the stability of element in the manufacturing process can be secured without necessitating inert atmosphere. Accordingly, the manufacturing process is simplified and a manufacturing cost can be reduced. On the other hand, a stabilized metal or In is employed whereby durability against oxygen or moisture is improved. Accordingly, the organic EL element can be obtained with the characteristic high in the light emitting efficiency and having stabilized characteristics. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
