PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyvinyl acetal resin for a heat developable photosensitive material which provides a heat developable photosensitive material free from tinting, fogging, defective gradation, insufficient sensitivity, etc., and excellent in storage stability when used as a binder resin constituting a photosensitive layer, and also to provide such a heat developable photosensitive material. SOLUTION: The polyvinyl acetal resin for a heat developable photosensitive material is used as a binder resin of a photosensitive layer of the heat developable photosensitive material, wherein a total content of at least two selected from the group consisting of alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, halogen ion, nitrate ion and sulfate ion (but a combination of alkali metal and halogen ion is excluded) is≤100 ppm.
