PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for making a proof and an apparatus for forming a proof image by which the size of each dot in a proof is identical to the size of each dot in a printed material, tones are approximated so that difference from a printed material is not recognized, moire patterns, interference irregularity and texture can be reproduced accurately following a printed material, and a proof with high reliability can be obtained. SOLUTION: The apparatus for forming a proof image is equipped with: an image forming unit 2 to form a proof image; an input operation unit 3 to input the exposure light quantity to output in the image forming unit 2 so as to reproduce tones of colors appearing on a printed material by area ratios of dots in a proof; and a control unit 4 to form an image in the image forming unit 2 based on the exposure light quantity send from the input operation unit 3.
