PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for diagnosing whether a diabetic patient has taken a heart/blood vessel complication or the patient has a risk of getting cardiovascular complications. SOLUTION: According to this method, (a) the level of at least one heart hormone or its variant in a sample derived from the patient is measured in vitro, and (b) the measured level is compared with a known level related to the heart/blood vessel complication or its risk, thereby diagnosing the complication or the risk of taking the complication. Further, measurement of combined markers is provided, where the markers including heart hormones, sodium diuretic peptide, inflammation-related markers, arterialization markers, and markers related to platelet activation.
