PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive nonmagnetic austenitic stainless steel having high strength and machinability, and to provide a nonmagnetic stainless steel worked material having higher strength by subjecting the nonmagnetic austenitic stainless steel to cold working. SOLUTION: Respective elements are melted and mixed so as to obtain a composition containing, by weight,≤0.12% C,≤1.00% Si, 6.50 to 9.00% Mn, 0.15 to 0.35% S, 2.00 to 4.00% Cu, 1.50 to 3.50% Ni, 16.0 to 18.0% Cr,≤0.60% Mo, 0.10 to 0.25% N, and the balance Fe (there is a case where P or the like are included as impurities).
