PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film which has good surface property and a satisfactory elastic modulus. SOLUTION: This polyester film is constituted of a polyester composition comprising a polyester and a layered silicate ion-exchanged by 60-100% with organic phosphonium ions, and the content of the layered silicate in the polyester composition is 0.01-20 wt.% as an inorganic ash content, the content of quartz is 0.009 wt.% or lower, and the layered silicate is oriented with respect to the surface direction of the film.
