PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat type display device capable of extending the life of a phosphor layer. SOLUTION: A plurality of electron emitting elements 16a, 16b, scanning wiring 18a, 18b, 18c to drive the electron emitting elements, and signal wiring 18d, 18e are provided on the inner side of the back substrate 4 of this flat type display device. The electron emitting element 16a has a first electrode 21 connected to the scanning wiring 18a, a second electrode 22 connected to the signal wiring 18d, and a third electrode 23 connected to the adjacent scanning wiring 18b. Once the electron emitting element 16a is driven, an electron jumps over a gap G while moving toward the second electrode 22 from the first electrode 21, and when it is accelerated toward the front substrate by an anode voltage, it is shifted by the potential of the third electrode 23.
