PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simplifying a Viterbi decoder for solving various problems in conventional technology. SOLUTION: The method for simplifying the Viterbi decoder includes steps in which a known partial response is captured, quantity of a surplus register selector modules is defined by the number of taps for the partial response, an initial input signal is defined by analyzing an output signal for the surplus register selector module, and Viterbi decoding for series data is performed in the Viterbi decoder by a forward tracking state and an initial input signal.
