PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic endoscope capable of confirming an irradiation position of ultrasound. SOLUTION: A capacitance type ultrasonic vibrator array 34 installed on a tip of an inserting section of the ultrasonic endoscope, has a capacitance type ultrasonic vibrator layer 55 made of a transparent material which is arranged on an upper face of a light emitting device layer 54 along a cylindrical surface. A light emitting device 56 is arranged just below a capacitance type ultrasonic vibrator cell located in the center of a plurality of the capacitance type ultrasonic vibrator cells 63, and the light emitting device 56 forms a light spot 67a on a position of a living body 26 side irradiated with the ultrasound. With such a configuration, the irradiation position of the ultrasound can be confirmed optically using an observation optical system. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
