<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a correct timing of replenishing a lubricant supply body by correcting detection error caused when detecting the timing of replenishing the lubricant supply body. <P>SOLUTION: The output of a surface condition sensor that detects the surface condition of a photoreceptor is read as a relative value that is a ratio between an output when a lubricant is not applied and an output when the lubricant is applied. The output of the surface condition sensor is used to detect the supply timing of the lubricant supply body.
