<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently operate a copying machine without delays even when instructed by a user to process as many sheets as exceeding the maximum number of sheets the ejecting means can handle. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus has an image forming means (33) to form images on recording paper following the instructions by a user, paper eject means (5a, 5b) to pile up the recording paper processed in the image forming means, and a control means (41) to determine when instructed by a user whether or not the scheduled number of sheets of recording paper (A) for the instruction exceeds the maximum number of sheets the paper eject means can pile up, and to give an alarm to the user to inform when the scheduled number of sheets exceeds the maximum number of sheets to pile up.
