PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of efficiently manufacturing a monolayer carbon nanotube 6 at a low cost by reducing a labor to prepare a catalyst metal used for the synthesis of the monolayer carbon nanotube 6, where catalyst metal particles are not included in the monolayer carbon nanotube 6, its structural defect is less, its purity is high, a refining process is unnecessary, low-priced carbon monoxide is used as a carbon source, and its reaction conditions are a low temperature and a low pressure. SOLUTION: A carbon-containing gas is flown on a carrier 2 on which a catalyst metal is carried and a monolayer carbon nanotube 6 is grown on the carrier 2 by the vapor growth method. The obtained monolayer carbon nanotube 6 is recovered and the carrier 2 is reused as it is for growing a monolayer carbon nanotube 6 on the carrier 2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
