METHODS FOR DETERMINING RISK OF DEVELOPING REGULAR SMOKING BEHAVIOR

Methods and materials are described for identifying individuals with an increased risk of developing regular smoking behaviors, based in part on newly discovered associations between smoking behavior and specific allelic variants found in a polymorphic region of the CHRNA4 gene. The polymorphic region harbors two allelic variants shown herein to associate with susceptibility to developing a regular smoking habit.
