The invention relates to a method to prevent dehiscence in a plant or to alter plant lignification comprising providing said plant with a nucleotide protein coding for a GGL protein or a functional equivalent thereof, and growing said plant. The invention also relates to the isolated GGL protein or functional equivalents, a nucleic acid encoding said protein and vectors, host cells and plants comprising said nucleic acid.
