A method of boring a hole 5 in a diamond 1 comprises the steps of directing a focused laser beam 2 into the diamond so as to form a crater 3 therein, inverting the diamond and focusing the laser beam on to the region of the tip 4 of the already formed crater and boring from the region of the tip opposite to the propagation direction of the laser beam by suitable control of the beam.</p> |
