A precoated chromium alloyed steel with good paint adhesion for exhaust applications

A precoated heat resistant steel sheet (S) comprises a steel sheet with a protective coating which is resistant to delamination at temperatures up to 540 deg C. and includes an inner inorganic portion (IN) and an outer organic portion (OUT) with the organic portion including a dry film (F). (IN) includes a chromium based conversion coating containing a particulate material. (OUT) comprises a silicone paint and (F) comprises a copolymer (A) of thermoplastic acrylic resin and lubricant or polymeric olefin. (F) is tack-free, impervious to moisture, oil, dirt, and the like. Also claimed is a process for the production of (S).
