A method for bonding together silicone-coated fibrous substrates involves using crosslinkable silicone adhesives of the liquid silicone rubber or pumpable silicone elastomer types with a Brookfield viscosity of at least 100 Pa.s at 25[deg]C and a rate of extrusion of not more than 20 g/min. A method for bonding overlapping, silicone-coated, woven or non-woven fibrous substrates with a silicone-based adhesive (I) involves (i) using crosslinkable silicone adhesive(s) of the liquid silicone rubber (LSR) or pumpable silicone elastomer (ESP) type which is/are in the form of liquid (fluid paste) at room temperature, with a Brookfield viscosity (upper liquid limit) of at least 100 (preferably at least 200) Pa.s at 25[deg]C and a rate of extrusion (lower liquid limit; method of measurement given) of not more than 20 (preferably not more than 50) g/min, (ii) placing the adhesive directly on the overlap zone of at least one of the substrates, (iii) keeping the substrates in intimate contact with no air trapped at the interface and (iv) forming a bond by heating and crosslinking the adhesive. An independent claim is also included for adhesives with the above properties, comprising (a) polyorganosiloxane(s) (POS) with at least two 2-6C alkenyl groups attached to silicon, (b) a mineral reinforcing filler, (c) an organic peroxide catalyst (in the absence of POS crosslinkers as in (e) below) or a metal compound catalyst, preferably a platinum compound combined with a setting regulator (in the presence of POS crosslinkers as in (e)), (d) optionally another filler, (e) optionally a POS crosslinker with at least three hydrogen atoms attached to silicon, (f) optionally a POS additive in which at least 50% of the Si atoms are directly attached to at least one hydrogen atom, (g) optionally an adhesion promoter, (h) optionally a POS resin and (f) optionally functional additives for specific properties. |
