A theatre (20) designed to provide an intimate environment for an audience, particularly for watching 3-D motion pictures. The theatre (20) has an auditorium (22) with a sloped seating deck (36) and audience entry/exit points (38, 40) on opposite sides generally at an intermediate level of the deck. The entry/exit points (38, 40) are generally at ground level (G) with the portion of the deck below those points (38, 40) in an excavated pit. A ground level lobby (30) connect s to the access points (38, 40) by aisles (60, 62) outwardly of opposite sides of the auditorium (22) and a projection room (32) is provided above the lobby (30).
