The method involves determining whether a noise frame exists by variably setting multiple thresholds independently in zones in which an estimated noise spectrum is updated according to an input audio spectrum of the audio signal. The estimated noise spectrum is updated based on the noise spectrum of a previous frame and current frame and subtracting the updated noise spectrum from an input audio spectrum of the current frame. An independent claim is also included for a recording device comprising a noise elimination apparatus.
