A tethering device 10 includes a support member 12 and a member 14 rotatably mounted on the support member 12 and about which a flexible tether line 16 can be wound for tethering an animal or object to the support member 12. The support itself includes a stake part 20 with an upstanding pole portion 32 with a head 34, and a pipe part 12 telescoped over the pole portion. The respective ends of the pipe part can be used to hammer the stake part into or out of the ground.
