The method of controlling a laser involves generating laser pulses (11-13) of different intensities by opening and closing a Q circuit in a resonator of the laser. The intensity of the laser pulses is controlled by the length of a time interval during which the Q circuit is closed before outputting the laser pulse. An independent claim is also included for a laser system with a control circuit.
