The membrane module according to the invention is characterized in that it has concrete flanges. This membrane module is made by first sealing a bundle 3 of ceramic fibre membranes 5 at one end using a viscous sealant and then pressing it into a fluid mass of concrete 47 in a mould. After the mass of concrete 47 has hardened the process is repeated with the other end of the bundle 3. Finally the ends of the fibre membranes 5 are opened by sawing off a slice of the flanges.
