PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately position medical images captured at different times. SOLUTION: Inputted images P1 and P2 are reduced in size (S31), and corresponding points to the size reduced images are computed (S32). The images P1 and P2 are horizontally and vertically plane-moved and corrected so that the corresponding points are superimposed on each other (S33). Next, the image P1 is rotated with a reference point as the axis of rotation (S34). The image P1 is expanded or contracted in the vertical direction within a prescribed range of vertical expansion/contraction [β-γ] (35), and the image P1 is expanded/contracted in the lateral direction within a prescribed range of lateral expansion/contraction [β'-γ'] (S36). The matching degree D of the images P1 and P2 is computed (S37) and the maximum rotation angle, vertical expansion/contraction rate and lateral expansion/contraction rate are computed (S38) while the rotation and the expansion/contraction processes are being executed at the same time, and the image P1 is corrected according to the computed rotation angle, vertical expansion/contraction rate and lateral expansion/contraction rate (S39).
