The overpressure valve (10) for fluid media to limit the pressure in a container or line (12) has a shut-off valve (16) installed between an inlet (14) and outlet (18). A sensor (24) is activated during the switching action of the shut-off valve. The sensor is connected to a data processing device (26) and is connected in parallel with the shut-off valve. A memory (28) is provided for data gathered by the sensor or transmitted from the data processing device. An independent claim is included for a retrofit kit for an overpressure valve with a sensor to record the switching action of the shut-off valve.
