PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lamp position adjusting device and lamp position adjusting method in which the variation in the relative position adjustment of a valve and a reflector is small and the position adjustment of both can be performed with high degree of accuracy. SOLUTION: The position adjusting device has a light source including the valve and the reflector, an illumination optical system for illuminating a surface to be irradiated with the luminous flux from the light source, a projection optical system for projecting the luminous flux from the surface to be irradiated to a prescribed surface, a detection system including a plurality of sensors for detecting the luminous flux made incident on the prescribed surface, and a moving mechanism for adjusting the relative positional relation between the valve and the reflector based on the detection result of the detecting system. The refracting power of the illumination optical system is perpendicular to the optical axis and varies in the first direction and the second direction orthogonal with each other.
