PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving the germination of seeds, by which such the deterioration of germination uniformity as the germination-improving effect of seeds subjected to a seed hydration treatment technique after a drying treatment is partially eliminated or reduced can be prevented, and by which the germination-improving effect can be maintained even by the drying treatment. SOLUTION: This method for improving the germination of seeds is characterized by bringing the seeds into contact with an aqueous betaine solution for such a time and at such a temperature as being sufficient for improving the vitality of the seeds but insufficient for causing the germination. When the seeds are preliminarily soaked in a liquid selected from water and the aqueous betaine solution, the germination-improving effect can be maintained. A method for bringing the seeds into contact with the aqueous betaine solution includes mixing the seeds with a granular solution-holding material holding the aqueous betaine solution in a container, and rolling the seeds in a container on whose inside a sheet-like solution-holding material is laminated.
