This invention relates to the field of drug discovery. Specifically, it describes a method ("Inverted Drug Screening" or "IDS(TM)") of identifying therapeutics from ethnobotanical (EB) preparations by repeatedly fractionating and testing fractions from EB sources. One aspect of the invention relates to quinic acid derivatives (e.g., derivatives of 3,5-dicaffeoyl quinic acid) for the treatment of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection.
