PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply and economically producing a polyamine of a diphenylmethane series in which an acid catalyst can be utilized in a degree of protonation of <15% without separating a reaction mixture into a two phase system. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polyamine comprises (a) reacting aniline with formaldehyde at a molar ratio of 1.5:1 to 6:1 at 20-100°C, preferably at 30-95°C, especially preferably at 40-90°C while keeping water content of an acidic reaction mixture to <20 mass% and setting degree of protonation of <15% and (b) increasing the temperature of the reaction mixture to 110-250°C when the ratio of mass contents of p-aminobenzylaniline and 4,4'-MDA in the acidic reaction mixture is lowered to <1.00.
