The invention relates to a method for producing a coil winding for stators, wherein one web (14) each lies in a stator groove and the two webs (14) are interlinked by a winding overhang (16). According to said method, a plurality of coils is simultaneously produced by winding n parallel wires (10) on a rotating former (20). In order to obtain small winding overhangs, one web (14) and one winding overhang (16) each are alternately produced on the former (20) in a working step A from all of the parallel wires (10). In a working step B, the webs (14) so produced and the wire guide are displaced, together with an end of the winding overhangs (16), by axially moving the former (20). Working steps A and B are repeated several times and then the webs (14) for the last n stator grooves (20) are produced on the former (20). The coil is then removed from the former, squeezed flat and put into a strip-shaped coil receiver. From there, it is transferred to the grooves of the rotor-type transfer tool which open radially outward and is then displaced into the stator grooves radially outward.
