ELECTRONIC DICTIONARY

An electronic dictionary includes: dictionary data storage means (15) having dictionary main body data (15a), syntax search data (15b), a British-American spelling comparison table (15c); input means (12) for inputting character data; and extraction means (11a). No matter whether the headword inputted from the input means (12) is spelled in British way or American way, correlation means correlates the correspondence between the British spelling and the American spelling of the same word. When the correlation means judges that there is other spelling, the word of the other spelling is also considered as the input character string and it is displayed on display means (14). Thus, a user can input a word without considering the difference of spellings depending on the country.
