PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a high-quality aromatic polycarbonate resin by using an aromatic dihydroxy compound obtained by decomposing a waste aromatic polycarbonate (e.g. an aromatic polycarbonate product such as discarded CD, CD-ROM and DVD). SOLUTION: In the method, the aromatic polycarbonate resin is prepared using the aromatic dihydroxy compound (X) comprising (A) 1-100 wt.% aromatic dihydroxy compound obtained by decomposing the waste aromatic polycarbonate resin through transesterification in the presence of a 1-4C alcohol, a chlorinated compound organic solvent and a metal hydroxide and (B) 99-0 wt.% another aromatic dihydroxy compound.
