PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical film which is produced particularly by a melt casting film-making method, prevents the occurrence of an optical defect even when film is made for a long time, and is excellent in retardation uniformity after drawing. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the optical film which is made by the melt casting film-making method, when a thermoplastic resin sheet (thermoplastic resin film) 2 melt-extruded from an extruder is cooled, cooling drums 3-5, with an amorphous chrome plating formed on each surface, are used.
