PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an instrument for measuring a moving object by image processing reducing a measuring error. SOLUTION: Physical quantities about representative points are measured using a substantial rear end of the moving object as the representative point, when the moving body is moved along a direction separated from a video camera 10 for imaging the moving body, and using a substantial front end of the moving object as the representative point, when the moving body is moved along a direction approaching to the video camera 10. A relative position with respect to an area of the moving object may be determined preliminarily as the representative point. A geometric gravity center of the moving object may be found as the representative point, when the moving body is determined not to be overlapped with another moving body, and a point corresponding to the geometric gravity center when determined not to be overlapped may be found as the representative point, on the basis of a moving vector of the moving body, when the moving body is detected to be overlapped with another moving body.
