PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate for an error of estimated cylinder intake air quantity using an open loop air-fuel ratio control. SOLUTION: On the basis of output of an air flow meter and an output of a throttle opening sensor, an estimated cylinder intake air quantity base value Abase is calculated, and on the basis of the air fuel ratio A/F of exhaust emission detected by an air-fuel ratio sensor and the fuel injection quantity Fuel, a reference cylinder intake air quantity Acal in which the actual cylinder intake air quantity is reflected with good accuracy is calculated. The reference cylinder intake air quantity Acal is compared with the estimated cylinder intake air quantity base value Abase to obtain an error Aerror of the estimated cylinder intake air quantity, and low-pass filtering (averaging) is performed for the error Aerror of the estimated cylinder intake air quantity. After that, the estimated cylinder intake air quantity base value Abase is corrected only for the error Aerror of the estimated cylinder intake air quantity to find the final estimated cylinder intake air quantity Aest.
