There are provided a signal processing device and method, a recording medium, and a program capable of smoothing a portion other than an edge while accurately maintaining the edge having a precipitous pixel value change. Step (S11) decides a pixel-in-attention. Step (S12) decides a pixel-in-the-vicinity. Step (S13) calculates a difference between the pixel-in-attention and the pixel-in-the-vicinity. Step (S14) establishes a flag in this pixel-in-the-vicinity and in a pixel-in-the-vicinity which is in a symmetric relationship to this pixel- in-the-vicinity according to the magnitude relation between the difference and a threshold value epsilon. Furthermore, a flag is established in a pixel-in-the-vicinity farther from the pixel-in- attention than the pixel-in-the-vicinity in the symmetric relationship where the flag has been established. Step (S15) calculates weighted average of the tap of seven pixels around the pixel-in-attention. Here, for the pixel-in-the-vicinity having the flag, the calculation is performed by replacing the pixel value with the value of the pixel-in- attention C.
