PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AC motor that can generate increased torque and enables size and cost reduction, and to provide a control unit for the AC motor. SOLUTION: A rotor 100 is toratable on a rotor shaft 11. The rotor includes north magnetic poles and south magnetic poles alternately, disposed in the circumferential direction; and rotor neutral magnetic poles 25, 26, and 27 that are disposed at positions adjacent to the north magnetic poles and the south magnetic poles, in the direction of the rotor shaft and magnetically connected with the back yoke 2 for them. A stator 200 is formed by two modules disposed adjacently in the direction of the rotor shaft. The modules includes a winding wound into a loop shape with the rotor shaft 11 at the center; stator neutral magnetic poles disposed at facing the rotor neutral magnetic poles; stator magnetic poles disposed in positions opposite either the north magnetic poles or the south magnetic poles of the rotor 100; and a back yoke that connects the stator neutral magnetic poles and the stator magnetic poles so that it revolves about the winding.
