PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately navigate through subtitles of an Audio Video data stream. SOLUTION: In the method and apparatus of navigating through subtitles of an AV data stream, a data unit of an AV data stream is reproduced, the data unit contains video, audio and subtitle data packets, and access information of the reproduced data unit is stored together with subtitle information data of the reproduced data unit. The subtitle information data are displayable portions of the subtitle data packet of the reproduced data unit, the indication of the stored subtitle information data is created, and one selection of the stored subtitle information data of which the indication is created is detected. The stored access information of the data unit corresponding to the selected subtitle information data is retrieved, the retrieved access information is used to access a corresponding data unit, and the accessed data unit is reproduced.
