PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel easy to manufacture having improved contrast. SOLUTION: The plasma display panel is formed by arranging a front substrate 10 having a pair of display electrodes 14, and a rear substrate 20 having data electrodes 22 and barrier ribs 24 so that the pair of display electrodes 14 cross the data electrodes 22. The barrier ribs 24 consist of lengthwise barrier ribs 24a parallel with the data electrodes 22 and a pair of lateral barrier ribs 24b parallel with the display electrodes 14, the lengthwise ribs 24a and the lateral ribs 24b forming a discharge cell 26 of a well curb shape, and a pair of the lateral ribs 24b forming a non-discharging space 27, with its inner face blackened.
