PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an emergency stop method and device performing emergency stop of a compressor body before an operating condition causing failure of the compressor body is brought about. SOLUTION: In the oil-free screw type compressor body 60 as a target of emergency stop, a rotational frequency band of the compressor body 60 capable of preventing failure is predetermined. The speed of an engine 70 making the compressor body 60 generate the lower limit rotational frequency of the rotational frequency band is set within an ordinary speed range of the engine 70, and the engine speed is set as the minimum speed of the engine 70. During operation of the compressor body 60, when the speed of the engine 70 becomes less than the minimum engine speed, the engine 70 is stopped to perform emergency stop of the compressor body 60.
