PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve quality and to enlarge application by causing no operation failure even in harsh environment. SOLUTION: This latch device comprises a housing 2; a sliding body 30 having an abutting part 32 and a cam groove 5 and disposed within the housing 2 and moved against a spring member 45; an engaging claw 37 having a claw 39 and a pin 38c and changed into a locking position where the claw 39 is projected from the sliding body to lock a striker, and a release position where the claw 39 is retreated into the sliding body; and a pin member 6. When the sliding body 30 is pressed through the striker 62 and moved, the sliding body 30 is kept in the moved position through the cam groove 5 and the pin member 6, and the engaging claw 37 is changed into the locking position from the lock release position. The housing 2 has a tapered face 47 abutting on the pin 38c by the movement of the sliding body 30 to change the engaging claw 37 into the locking position from the lock release position, together with a rib 28 abutting on the pin 38c to change the engaging claw 37 into the lock release position from the locking position.
