PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method which can obtain uniform luminance distribution free of unevenness, without having to depend on the variations in the cutoff voltage of a display element. SOLUTION: A correction data processing circuit 7 reads a correction value (ΔVx) of the cut-off voltage as correcting data out of a table for correcting the cut-off voltage of a correcting data generation circuit 6, acording to the timing control of a timing/level control circuit 5, and sends out the correcting data (ΔVx) for the one horizontal line component (n piece), corresponding to signal lines (X 1 to Xn) to be scanned by each scanning of respective scanning lines Y (Y 1 to Ym) to an image signal processing circuit 8. The image signal processing circuit 8 superimposes the correcting data (ΔVx) for the one line component received from the correction data processing circuit 7 on the gradation data for the one line component generated by sampling the RGB video signals, temporarily holds the same and outputs the data in parallel to an X driver 2.
