<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member capable of improving sliding characteristic. <P>SOLUTION: In this sliding member wherein at least a sliding face side is composed of a complex material of carbon fiber woven fabric obtained by weaving fiber bundles composed of a plurality of carbon fiber filaments, and a resin impregnated in the carbon fiber woven fabric, the carbon fiber woven fabric is constituted in such manner that the woven fabric face direction and the sliding face are in parallel with each other, the number of pieces of filaments constituting the fiber bundle is 6000 or less (396tex or less), and the density of filament constituting the carbon fiber woven fabric is 2400 pieces/cm or less.
