PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect a pattern when measuring a three-dimensional shape by projecting the projection pattern having a plurality of levels. SOLUTION: A pattern projector 10a projects the stripe pattern arranged alternately with the white stripes onto a subject. The stripe pattern is recoded by a photographed image of the first camera 20 having an optical axis coaxial to that of a pattern projector 10, and the recoded stripe pattern is correlated with a photographed image by the second camera 30 for photographing from a direction different from that of the pattern projector 10, so as to calculate a distance up to the subject. The stripe pattern is a combination of six types of brightness stripes where a 0-127 level out of a 256 gradation is divided into five stages with the white, i.e. 255 level. The 255 level of stripe is always arranged between the 0-127 level of stripes. The adjacent fellow stripes are thereby brought into a 128 level difference or more. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
